6-Week Beginner Pottery Wheel Workshop

Join us at Ceramique Ceramic Studios for a six-week beginner pottery wheel workshop designed for those ready to explore the art of creating with clay.

Whether you've never touched a pottery wheel or have tried it a few times, this hands-on experience will introduce you to the fundamentals of wheel throwing in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Under the guidance of our pottery instructor, Erika, you'll learn essential techniques, develop your skills, and experience the satisfaction of transforming a simple ball of clay into something uniquely yours.

No previous pottery experience is necessary!

What You'll Learn

Throughout the six weeks, you'll explore:

• Preparing and wedging clay for the pottery wheel

• Centering clay and developing proper hand positioning

• Opening, pulling, and shaping clay into basic forms

• Creating functional pottery such as bowls, cups, and small vessels

• Trimming and refining your pieces

• Understanding the drying, firing, and glazing process

Pottery Wheel Care & Studio Practices

·        Learning pottery goes beyond shaping clay. Students will also learn proper pottery wheel care, including basic equipment maintenance, safe cleaning procedures, and responsible studio practices.

·        At the end of each session, participants will be responsible for cleaning their pottery wheel, tools, splash pan, and surrounding workspace under the instructor's guidance.

·        This is an important part of learning the pottery-making process and helps maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming studio for everyone.

Each session builds upon the previous week's instruction, allowing you to gain confidence and improve your technique.

Things to Know Before You Arrive

• Wear comfortable clothing, you don't mind getting dirty. Working with clay can get messy!

• Bring a small towel to wipe your hands or lay over your lap.

• Keep fingernails reasonably short, as long nails can make wheel throwing more challenging.

• Long hair should be tied back, and jewelry that may interfere with working on the wheel should be removed.

• Closed-toe shoes are recommended.

• All pottery materials and tools needed for scheduled instruction are provided.

• Finished pottery requires drying, firing, and cooling time. Pieces will not be available to take home immediately.

• We will notify you when your completed pottery is ready for pickup.

Registration & Attendance

To create a more personal, hands-on learning experience, each workshop is limited to just four students, allowing for individual guidance, encouragement, and plenty of time at the pottery wheel.

Because each class builds on the previous session, participants are encouraged to attend all six weeks.

Registration is for the complete series. Missed sessions are not refundable, and makeup classes are not guaranteed.

Workshops are subject to minimum enrollment requirements. If Ceramique cancels the series, registered participants will be offered a refund or an alternative arrangement.
