6. Kiln, Glazing & Firing Process
At Ceramique Ceramic Studios, every pottery piece is individually glazed and fired with the utmost care. While we make every effort to ensure successful results, ceramics is a handcrafted art form, and the kiln firing process involves variables that are beyond anyone's control.
Please be aware of the following:
-
Slight variations in glaze color, texture, and finish are a natural and expected part of the ceramic firing process. Final colors may differ from samples or expectations due to glaze chemistry and kiln temperatures.
-
Small imperfections, pinholes, crazing, color variation, or other characteristics that occur during firing are considered part of the unique, handmade nature of ceramic artwork and are not considered defects.
-
Handmade clay projects require proper construction, drying, and handling before firing. Factors such as trapped moisture, air pockets, uneven wall thickness, improper attachment of clay pieces, or the natural characteristics of the clay may cause pieces to crack, warp, separate, or, in rare cases, break during firing.
-
Even when all recommended techniques are followed, ceramic pieces may occasionally crack or fail during the firing process due to the unpredictable nature of clay and high-temperature kiln firing.
-
Although our staff carefully handle, glaze, load, unload, and inspect each piece, Ceramique Ceramic Studios cannot guarantee the successful firing of every project.
-
In the unlikely event that a piece is damaged or lost during the glazing or firing process due to circumstances beyond our control, each situation will be evaluated individually. A replacement bisque piece or studio credit will be offered at the sole discretion of Ceramique Ceramic Studios.
Thank you for embracing the handmade nature of ceramics. Every piece tells its own story, and the unique characteristics that emerge during the glazing and firing process are part of what make handcrafted pottery truly one of a kind.
